A busy Brisbane street corner
A sky-blue 1960s Olivetti typewriter
A portable table, two camp chairs, a sign that said:
Sentimental writer collecting love stories. Do you have one to share?
The response was overwhelming. Strangers sat on the spare camp chair and out-poured love stories of joy, sadness, wisdom, yearning, unfinished business and so much more.
Over two months in 2021 Trent Dalton one of Australia’s best-loved writers listened and collected these stories.
The stories feature in a book called Love Stories. I’ve been dipping in and out of his book all week. It is like a heart hug. The stories are warm, funny, sad, surprising, and poignant.
Why am I sharing this? The power of a simple question. Can you please tell me a love story?
What question are you going to ask today of yourself or someone else? And then follow Trent Dalton’s advice shut up and listen.
