I thought I knew Melbourne pretty well.
Then I discovered there is a Skyfarm, a rooftop farm on top of a skyscraper. Who knew?
I found it while looking through the program for this year’s Birrarung Riverfest. A month-long celebration of our river with something for everyone: moonlight walks, sunset birdwatching, art, workshops and fun things for kids. It’s quite magical. And best of all, most events are free.
In the program I have my eye on Bee Hotels by the Birrarung, where you build a hotel for native bees. Exciting and terrifying.
What I love about Riverfest is how it makes me curious about my own city again.
And the fabulous Megan Davis and I are part of the program too.
On Sunday 11 October, we’re hosting Bollywood and Storytelling by the Birrarung, where you’ll learn a whole Bollywood dance sequence and explore storytelling by the river. It will be loads of fun and somewhat unhinged, I promise.
If you’re in Melbourne, please come and celebrate the Birrarung with us.
PS: That is, of course, Megan and me in the photo. In our dreams. Image created by me + ChatGPT.
