Recently, I got the most wonderful email and I’m sending a giant, glittery thank you to Nic.
‘I love getting your emails on a Friday, I look forward to them. They are a highlight of my work from home and get sh*t done day. Your conversational tone, the storytelling (of course) and the insights make me feel like I’m talking to an old (time, not age), wise friend. Chef’s kiss.’
I read it three times and I’m sure my smile could have powered the whole house. I may have done a little chair dance. (No witnesses, can’t prove it.)
That feeling is exactly why this year I quietly started something I call a ‘love bomb a day.’
A love bomb is a tiny, specific compliment given freely, with no agenda.
Telling a stranger their shoes are fabulous.
Texting a colleague, ‘That question you asked changed the whole meeting.’
Even saying to yourself, ‘You handled that conversation better than you think.’
One small, honest sentence that says: I see you.
Nic’s email was a love bomb for me.
Here’s what I’m learning: kindness is lovely, but specific kindness is rocket fuel.
The hard part? I used to think it, but not say it. By the time I decided it wasn’t weird, the stranger had already walked past, the moment had evaporated and I’d missed my chance.
So now my rule is simple: if I notice it, I say it. Not later, not perfectly, but just now. And watch the person’s face light up.
Today, send one love bomb. Just one. Make it specific.
And when one lands in your inbox, don’t brush it off. Save it, savour it, let it count. Chair dance optional but highly recommended.
