Ever had one of those moments where you are scrambling for the perfect opening for your story? A story beginning that instantly connects and captivates your audience? But your mind draws a blank? I’ve got you covered! Presenting my video series: '5 Sizzling Story Starts to Make You Unforgettable...in a Good Way!'

Story beginnings in business storytelling are power moments. Why? Beginnings are how and when your audience decides to lean in and listen – or not. Your story's beginning is the door to your audience's attention and heart. One of the most important decisions you make with a story is where and how to begin. In each video I share one story start to captivate your audience from the get-go.

1: Time & Place

What is a fast, simple, and effective way to start your story? Where shall I begin?’ asks the White Rabbit in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. ‘Begin at the beginning,’ replies the King gravely, ‘and go on till you come to the end, then stop.’ Ah, if it was only so easy to simply begin at the beginning.

But so many minefields await the unsuspecting storyteller. Rambling beginnings, too much context, false starts, telling your audience things they don’t need to know or already know, beating around the bush…yawn!

No wonder beginnings are often struggle street for leaders. The simplest yet most effective way to begin is to drop your audience straight into the action. Think like a movie director. But exactly how can you do that? Watch today’s video on Sizzling Story Start#1 to find out!

2: Question Start

Questions at the start of a presentation or story are sadly underused. Yet the right question, β€˜What stops us from reaching our potential?’ captures your audience’s attention and imagination.

Watch today’s video on Sizzling Story Start#2 to find out how to nail the most intriguing story start! What question are you going to start your next story or presentation with?

3: Drop Into Emotion

This is my personal favourite way to start a story! In storytelling, opening on emotion is like rocket fuel. Story blast-off guaranteed.

When you open on emotion, the audience immediately invests in your story. But how can you, as a storyteller, use emotion at the start of a story? What are some β€˜must dos’ and cautions to be aware of?

4: Hook of Surprise

Did you know your brain responds to unexpected events with a dopamine spike? Surprises don't just grab your attentionβ€”they can make you feel good!

Sizzling Story Start #4 πŸŽ‰ is inspired by the master storyteller Quentin Tarantino himself. Research shows our brains are hardwired to notice the unusual, which is why Tarantino's stories captivate us.

But you don't need a Hollywood blockbuster to achieve this. In business, a hint of the unexpected can reel in your audience. Curious about how to use this story start? Watch this video to learn how to make your next story irresistible.

5: Dark Start

Oooh, this one’s the wild card. A Dark Start is the most daring way to kick off a story, and it’s not for the faint-hearted. But if you can master it, you’ll have your audience hanging on every word. Remember, though, with great power comes great responsibility. Use it wisely, or risk becoming the villain in your own tale!
