The number 1 Surprising rule for Storytelling Success

This is hot off the press! I landed back in Melbourne after spending 5 days immersed in the Professional Speakers Australia Convention in Perth. These are my peeps, my community, my tribe.

This is our big learning, hanging out and laughing (OK some partying too) conference.

This year the brilliant Tim Gard was our opening keynote speaker. Tim’s keynote is titled ‘The Making of a $1M Story’. This is the story that has put him on stages all around the world and gets him booked and rebooked.

He shared his story on stage, with props and humor, transporting every audience member with him. We were there running to catch the plane, in the middle seat with him, and every inch of the way till the explosive ending – I don’t want to give it away! He then deconstructed the story and how the magic happens.

Tim said his number 1 rule, note number 1 rule for storytelling is ‘If it doesn’t add to the story it subtracts from it’.

Simply ask the question to guide every decision you make as a storyteller, ‘Does this add to the story or subtract from it’.
