‘Business Storytelling’ – How to find stories that work.

Business StorytellingBusiness storytelling is not just about telling business stories.  The most effective stories are the ones that you find outside of work and then relate them back to a business issue.  In this video  Yamini explores how to find those every day ordinary stories in your own backyard that can be successfully used in business for extraordinary results.

We would love to know what you think.  Please leave a comment below.

My sister in Sydney, sent me, in Ireland, a link to your blog. Found your advice very good, the hardest thing for me is to remember a story that might be relevant. As you say I feel my life is pretty humdrum, but will try harder to see how events that happen in my life might be relevant to the people in my workshops.
    Best wishes from Ireland,
    Helen

      Dear Helen
Many thanks for your comment and to your sister for forwarding our link! You are spot on it’s hard to think of the right story that will be right for your audience (the people in your workshop). Luckily people are always interested in other people’s lives – especially the humdrum bits! Hope this doesn’t sound like I am cross promoting my posts but you might be interested in reading my latest post on simplexity that shines more light on this.

    Hi Yamini,
Thanks for sharing with your wonderful video. I too like the ‘audience & purpose’ point. It’s a great way to engage, but it’s also a fast way to loose your audience if you don’t take these into account. I’ve also been to presentations where the stories are ‘too personal’ and you can feel the audience cringe in discomfort – definitely a fine line to tread.
Thanks again, and I look forward to your next video.
    Regards,
    Alison

Alison thank you for your feedback. And you are spot on – nothing worse than making an audience cringe with your level of self disclosure and you are right healthy self disclosure is a fine line to tread.

Thanks Gareth and I guess audience and purpose should be the universal touchstones of all communication, presentations, meetings, learning programs and blog posts?!

Great video! I just came across your site and book a couple of weeks ago while preparing for an important presentation. I do a lot of presentations for my job, but thought that I would take a step back and try to take it to the next level.
I have to say that after following many of the tips from your book, the presentation turned out better than any other one I can remember doing in a long time! Thanks for all of the great resources and stories that you share!
